Lunar Phases

The ever-changing lunar phases of our closest luminary have a profound and often ‘hidden’ influence on the affairs of humanity.  With its powerful influence on the water element, the Moon creates not only tides in the oceans, but within our own lives, physicality, relationships and consciousness.  Working with the ‘tides of power’ of lunar phases can enhance your capacity to work with the forces of nature and to ‘go with the flow’.  This relationship with cosmic energy invites opportunity into your life and can enable a more dynamic life experience to unfold.

The following descriptions are extracts from The New Zealand Fairy Oracle of the Patupaiarehe Oracle Cards and booklet by Franchelle Ofsoské-Wyber.

Moon Phase: New Moon

New Moon is 0-45 degrees ahead of the Sun.

Dark Dawning: The Seed is Sown

The beginning of a new cycle is a time when power is being concentrated. This makes it an optimum time for conception at all levels. It is time to plant the seeds of intention and be clear as to what you want to initiate or manifest in your life. It is time for initiating a new cycle of experience, keeping your hopes and dreams alive inside you and waiting for the right time to sow the seeds.

Moon Phase: Waxing Crescent

Waxing Crescent, also known as Crescent Moon is 45-90 degrees ahead of the Sun.

Light Quickening: The First Shoots Appear

The quickening light indicates this is a time of rising energies. Tender young ideas that seek to take concrete form in the outer world now have to contend with cold hard reality. This is a time of objectivity, purpose, outward action and innovation. The focus is on setting things in motion, pursuing your objectives and shifting your focus out into the world. It is a time of opportunity as well as a time of growth, when difficulties, challenges and resistance may be encountered as fixed old forms struggle to resist yielding to the new.

Moon Phase: First Quarter

First Quarter Moon is 90-135 degrees ahead of the Sun.

Light Ascending: Roots and Leaves Take Form

Light and dark are in balance and it is ‘time to walk your talk.’ This is a time of increased growth and dynamic tension. Intentions and goals take hold. This is a time of consolidation, so exert the utmost effort and rise to the challenge to ensure projects take on greater form or structure as they move to the next stage of development. Be creative, ambitious, self-motivated, strong- willed, determined, independent and set your mind firmly to the task at hand.

Moon Phase: Waxing Gibbous

Waxing Gibbous, also known as Gibbous Moon is 135-180 degrees ahead of the Sun.

Light Dominant: The Bud Begins to Form

With the light now dominant it is time for you to be even more assertive and to master the art of perseverance as you steadily push forward. This can be a time of truth and is the ideal time to analyse and evaluate your progress as you seek to perfect what you are working on. It is a time of passion and intensity where an innate awareness of your own potential or promise can inspire and encourage you to improve or make the most of your developing skills and talents.

Moon Phase: Full Moon

Full Moon is 180-135 degrees behind the Sun.

Light Peaks: The Flower Emerges

With the light reaching its peak it is a time to celebrate the attainment of your goal and the reaching of your objective. It is the time of flowering and the coming into bloom of your vision. This is a high energy and stimulating time that brings achievement, manifestation and the promise of greater illumination. The outward expression of your endeavours is now visible for all to see. At this time you are open and also somewhat vulnerable to the influence of others. Polarised situations can arise and objectivity is the keyword, enabling increased clarity and awareness of your effect on others and theirs on you at this time.

Moon Phase: Waning Gibbous

Waning Gibbous, also known as Disseminating Moon is 135-90 degrees behind the Sun.

First Stirring of Dark: The Harvest

With the first stirrings of dark, it is a time to harvest the results of your efforts, endeavours and activities. This is a sociable time, a time of fruition and celebration of the sacredness of all things. It is time to demonstrate to others what you have learned or envisioned and to communicate and share information and the fruits of your own experiences. This is the optimal time to pursue the deeper secrets of the earth and your own underworld and look for purpose or meaning.

Moon Phase: Last Quarter

Last Quarter Moon is 90-45 degrees behind the Sun.

Light and Dark in Balance, Dark Gaining: The Seed Returns to the Earth

With the dark now gaining, this is a time of reflection. It is also a time of readjustment, of finding a new rhythm and of slowing down and moving to the pulse of the earth. Take this time to think seriously about what has been and to put it all into the cauldron of experience. Use every part of your experience to date to extract as much as you can for the next part of your journey. Eliminate what no longer serves you and shed what is no longer needed. This is a time of closure and completion and a time to deconstruct, dismantle, shed and eliminate.
The tearing down of the old structure makes way for the new. The corner has been turned.

Moon Phase: Waning Crescent

Waning Crescent, also known as Balsamic Moon is 45-0 degrees behind the Sun.

Depth of the Dark: The Earth Rests

Being in the time of the depth of the dark – the balsamic or old moon – indicates it is time to rest as a complete cycle is now drawing to a close. Sensitivity to the hidden worlds is heightened. The plant has died away – concentrating all its energy in the mature seed. It is a time of rest, regeneration and preparation for new life and for the start of a new cycle. Distill and extract wisdom from your experiences. Strike out on your own and shake off remnants of the dead past.
