The 12 Essential Skills of the Healer That Can Prevent ‘Healers’ Burnout

As I have mentioned before in my newsletters, articles and videos, what causes so many healers and empaths to feel overwhelmed, tired, exhausted and eventually burnt out is their special innate sensitivity to other people’s feelings, thoughts and energies. 

In this article I am sharing with you the 12 common signs that, if left unaddressed lead healers and empaths to burnout.

I also share what you can do to: 

  • maintain your wonderful gift of sensitivity
  • enhance and strengthen your ability to psychically receive messages 
  • help more people without compromising your own vitality and wellbeing

THE INNER AND OUTER SKILLS OF THE HEALER

In the old cultural traditions, healers held a special status in the community and were very respected. They held this status because they possessed two types of vital skills

One was that they had the necessary outer skills to help facilitate healing for others, for example with herbs, or energy work.

The other was that they had the necessary inner skills, or soul resources, qualities and disciplines that enabled them to powerfully assist others, without losing or compromising their own vitality and wellbeing.

What we see in our modern world, is many healers becoming highly trained in outer skills, often in several healing modalities, yet they continue to feel that something is missing.

What is often missing is the development of the inner skills. 

THE 12 COMMON SIGNS THAT LEAD TO HEALERS BURNOUT

+ THE 12 INNER SKILLS THAT CAN SUPPORT YOUR VITALITY AND WELLBEING

1. ‘IMPOSTER SYNDROME’ 

You are suffering from ‘imposter syndrome’. You feel you cannot be a ‘good’ healer because you still feel you need to heal in yourself. You may question your ability to be a healer and whether you are able to help others. 

The first rite of passage and soul skill of the healer is learning to connect with your own inner healer, your soul and to commit yourself to a healing path. By doing so you are able to move into a soul and heart-centred relationship with life. You will invoke the power to heal, see yourself as a soul on the journey of healing and growth whose purpose is to also help other souls on their journey of healing and growth. 

 

2. FEELING THE PAIN OF OTHERS 

You are feeling the pain of the people around you or the world in general and it’s ‘getting to you’. You feel you are ‘carrying’ the weight of the world on your shoulders and may have a deep sense of sadness in your heart. 

The second rite of passage and soul skill of the healer is learning to maintain a heart based connection to life and to see through the all-seeing-eye of the heart. By doing so you are able to see things as they truly are and also know exactly what you can do to help.

 

3. FEELING SWAMPED BY OTHER PEOPLE’S PROCESSES

You are feeling swamped by other people’s processes or feel that you ‘pick up’ their  negative energy. Or maybe when your client or your child does not get the result you hoped for them, you feel ‘thrown’ and want to rush to ‘fix’ it for them. 

The third rite of passage and soul skill of the healer is learning to stay in your own power centre, maintaining a state of healthy non-attachment. By doing so you can feel deeply anchored in yourself and not be thrown by what is happening around you. You can prevent negative energy from clinging to you. 

 

4. FEELING EXHAUSTED 

You are feeling exhausted because you are putting everybody else’s needs ahead of your own and you don’t feel you have the energy or the time to take proper care of yourself.

The fourth rite of passage and soul skill of the healer is learning to take care of the eight aspects of your own holistic self. By doing so you are can function at your optimum level, minimise downtime and help more people in the long run as a result.

 

5. FEELING OVERLY SENSITIVE 

You are feeling overly sensitive to external stimuli – sounds, people, foods, smells, sensations, odours, etc and you just wish you could escape from it all. You find it hard to say ‘no’ to things and to people and so you just end up saying ‘yes’ – until there is not much left in you.

The fifth rite of passage and soul skill of the healer is learning to put up an energetic shield where appropriate to prevent others tapping into your energy. You can ‘hear’ the voice of your own wild self, be able to say ‘no’ to things and to people and not give your energy away.

 

6. YOU FEEL YOU NEED TO ‘BE THERE’ FOR EVERYONE 

You are finding it so easy to sense what another person is feeling, you find it difficult to separate yourself from others and you just feel you need to ‘be there’ for everyone.

The sixth rite of passage and soul skill of the healer is learning to set and maintain clear and healthy physical, emotional or mental boundaries. You do not allow anyone or anything to distract you from your path.

 

7. USING YOUR OWN ENERGY 

You are using your own energy when working with clients, and you feel exhausted or tired by the end of the day or by the end of the week.

The seventh rite of passage and soul skill of the healer is learning to activate the triangle of healing power. By doing so you can tap into the highest spiritual forces and stop using your own energy for helping others.

 

8. YOU FEEL YOU ARE NOT QUITE FULFILLING YOUR POTENTIAL 

You have a sense that you were born to be a healer but you have a lingering sense that you are not quite fulfilling your potential, or that something is missing. You don’t quite know what your unique gifts are or how you can best use them as a force for good.

The eighth rite of passage and soul skill of the healer is learning to align with your own perfect divine energetic pattern. By doing so you can fully and confidently honour your uniqueness and gifts, not be side-tracked in the face of adversity and fulfil your healing destiny, no matter what.

 

9. GETTING SICK FOR NO APPARENT REASON 

You can ‘pick up’ on energies and feel them in your own body, but you do not know how to turn this sensitivity on and off at will, so you end up picking up energies indiscriminately and carrying them inside you, often without even realising. As a result you may have been getting sick for no apparent reason, or be feeling extra tried, dealing with pain or uncomfortable feelings in your body, struggling with negative or overwhelming emotions, and so on.

The ninth rite of passage and soul skill of the healer is learning to move into and out of a state of clairsentience (energy sensing) at will. By doing so you are able to further develop and enhance your clairsentient gift and use it as a powerful tool for healing, instead of being negatively affected by the energies around you.

 

10. FEELING ‘SPIRITUALLY’ BLOCKED 

You want to tap into or further develop your psychic senses, but you feel ‘spiritually’ blocked or don’t know if you can really trust the messages you are receiving.

The tenth rite of passage and soul skill of the healer is learning to access and enhance the five supersensory gifts: clairsentience, clairaudience, clairknowing, clairvoyance and clairgustus to receive information directly from the source. By doing so you can trust the information you are getting and confidently act on it for yourself and to assist others.

 

11. CAN’T QUITE ‘SHAKE OFF’ NEGATIVE THOUGHTS 

You feel affected by negative thoughts or projections from other people and you find that you can’t quite shake them off.

The eleventh rite of passage and soul skill of the healer is learning to move from human ego to divine ego. You can become a conscious creator of your own reality and create positive karma at will. You can control your own thoughts and can remove negative thoughts, and psychic barbs from your energy field.

 

12. FEELING STUCK 

You feel stuck because you cannot let go of the patterns, relationships, people, places and things that no longer serve you.

The twelfth rite of passage and soul skill of the healer is learning to sever outworn energetic cords or ties. By doing so you can avoid being pulled into other people’s dramas and stop old relationships, things and patterns draining your energy. You can be in a state of ‘readiness’ for the next step of your destiny.
